Easement The right to use another individual’s land for a specific purpose (i.e. to gain access to water or a road).

Endowment property The donation of property, such as large sums of money or land, to create or support the continued running of a good cause.

Equitable mortgage A mortgage in which the bank takes possession of the deeds to original title documents of the property as security in case of non-payment.

Excess of jurisdiction When a court acts beyond the limits of its power, either because it does not have the powers to deal with a particular case or because it deals with a case in a way that goes beyond the established requirements of law and, in so doing, violates an individual’s rights.
